Assignment description

The client builds AI-driven on-site messaging for e-commerce: the prompts, nudges, and recommendations that shoppers see across a retailer’s store, from first visit to checkout. When a new retailer comes on board, they set up their event/data pipeline in the cloud and configure their messaging products.

This role owns that delivery end to end: getting new clients live, deploying products, and, increasingly, automating the whole process, so launches become fast, repeatable, and self-serve. It’s a hands-on role with a clear growth path.

Depending on your experience, you’ll start by assisting on or directly owning client launches and deployments, then take on building the internal tooling that removes the manual work.

What you’ll do:

- Onboard new e-commerce clients: provision their cloud infrastructure, stand up their data/event pipeline, and verify data flows correctly from end to end.

- Deploy and configure on-site messaging products for each client and keep them running healthily.

- Build and maintain streaming data pipelines on Google Cloud.

- Spec client-side tracking when it’s needed: when a client requires extra or custom event tracking (for example, capturing an additional identifier from the page), write clear, precise requirements for the JavaScript that collects it, and review the implementation delivered by the client’s tracking team.

- Automate the above: turn manual, multi-step deployment checklists into reliable, one-click internal tools. This is the central focus and the main growth path of the role.

- Debug across the stack: trace an issue from the website, through the pipeline, to the message that gets served.

This role is not:

- A research/modelling ML role: the focus is deployment, operations, and automation. You work alongside ML, not building models.

- A pure front-end role: JavaScript here is for specifying and reviewing tracking, not building UIs.

About the team

You’ll work closely with 2 senior engineers, who review your work, and with the client's tracking team. The role grows from assisting on client launches, to owning them, to building the internal automation that makes launches more self-serve.

Must haves

- Solid Python skills.

- Familiarity with a cloud platform (Google Cloud ideal, AWS/Azure fine) and genuine comfort working in the command line.

- Comfort with a git + code review + CI/CD workflow.

- Data-pipeline/streaming experience (Apache Beam, Dataflow, Spark, Kafka, or similar).

- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform).

- Basic SQL and a working understanding of databases (relational and key-value/caching).

- Some JavaScript: enough to read web-tracking code, write a precise spec, and review someone else’s implementation (not to build everything from scratch).

- A real drive to automate repetitive work, with the instinct to script away any manual checklist you run into.

- Careful and verification-minded: confirms that things actually worked rather than assuming they did.

Nice to have:

- Hands-on JavaScript development: having built or maintained web/front-end or tracking scripts yourself (a step beyond the “some JavaScript” in the must-haves, which is only about reading and reviewing.

- Experience building internal tools or dashboards (e.g., a small web backend + simple UI).

- Exposure to A/B testing or online experimentation concepts.

- Some Go (reading level is enough).

- Web analytics/tag management (Google Tag Manager, GA4, dataLayer).

- Cloud security basics (secrets management, IAM / service accounts).
