What we do (and why it matters)

Swarmer develops software that makes drones autonomous and allows them to operate together, in large teams, without pilots required. Our technology has been battle-tested across 100,000+ combat missions in Ukraine — the world’s most intense proving ground for drone warfare. We just closed a $15M Series A (the largest investment in Ukrainian defense tech since the war began) and we’re scaling operations to serve NATO-aligned nations. This isn’t theoretical. This is software that’s being used right now to save lives and defend democracy.

What we’re looking for

Embedded Development Experience

  • Hands-on experience with embedded hardware-software integration on Linux systems (e.g., Raspberry Pi) and OS-less platforms (e.g., STM32, ESP32, FreeRTOS).
  • Deep Linux fundamentals: full boot sequence, peripheral management, and interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C)—including integration and wake-up in applications.

Technical Proficiency

  • Strong skills in Networking (OSI layers, firewalls, routing), Networking protocols (Wi-Fi, TCP/IP stack, OSI model) and memory models.
  • Strong C/C++ & Python skills; Shell scripting.
  • Expertise in at least one: advanced Linux systems and/or low-level/bare-metal programming.

Development Platform Knowledge

  • Experience building Linux from source and using build systems like CMake.
  • Hardware variety in past roles (STM32/ESP32/RPi).

Integration Experience

  • Proven track record of planning, executing, and documenting complex system integrations, particularly involving both hardware and software components.

Communication Skills

  • Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • English: ability to communicate fluently.

Problem-Solving Abilities

  • Strong analytical skills, with a talent for diagnosing and resolving integration issues efficiently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with drone/UAV systems.
  • Familiarity with platforms like Raspberry Pi and various flight controllers (e.g., Matek, OrangeCube) used in drone and embedded development.
  • Microcontroller projects (e.g., Arduino pet projects).
  • LoRa, Bluetooth (mesh networks), OpenIPC, or WBFNG.
  • IoT communication protocols are a plus. RF engineering knowledge is also advantageous.

Your role will encompass:

  • Assessing technical requirements for hardware composition and hardware requirements for our software features.
  • Designing and documenting decisions, protocols, and specifications needed for the successful streamlining of the manufacturing process.
  • Prototyping required solutions to bridge the gap between hardware and software products in our ecosystem
  • Working closely with external HW vendors and providing technical expertise for our integrations with them
  • Ensuring the interoperability and final quality of integrated systems.

The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise, experience in embedded development, and a deep understanding of drone technologies and communication protocols.

What you’ll do:

  • Hardware Design and Development: Design and develop hardware architectures for drone systems, including component selection, layout considerations, and system-level integration planning.
  • Embedded Systems Development: Develop and optimize embedded software for companion computers, microcontrollers, flight controllers, and other hardware components, ensuring efficient resource utilization and real-time performance.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Build and test hardware prototypes, conduct performance evaluations, and iterate on designs to meet product specifications and reliability standards.
  • Manufacturing Support: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to streamline production processes, develop assembly procedures, and ensure quality control throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
  • Vendor Collaboration: Work directly with hardware vendors and suppliers to specify requirements, evaluate components, and oversee the integration of third-party hardware solutions.
  • System Integration: Bridge the gap between hardware capabilities and software requirements, ensuring seamless communication between embedded systems and higher-level autonomy software.
  • Technical Documentation: Create detailed technical specifications, hardware design documents, and integration guides for internal teams and external partners.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous testing protocols for hardware reliability, environmental durability, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

What you’ll get:

  • Work on meaningful products that protect lives and shape the future of Defense Tech.
  • Dynamic environment with the unique opportunity to directly influence and see the impact of your work.
  • Lean, ambitious, and strong team.
  • Competitive salary, benefits package (insurance, paid sick leaves, 20 paid days off per year).
  • Benefits of the defense sector (reservation and related benefits).
  • Flexible remote work options (possibility to commute to the office if needed is essential).

Please note that, as a leading defense tech company, we take operations security seriously and may need to perform additional background checks as part of our hiring process. We will do so in accordance with all applicable EU laws and regulations and safeguard your data in the process.

Why this matters (and why you should care):

Ukraine is deploying 5 million drones in 2025 alone. The US and NATO are paying attention. The future of defense isn’t more pilots — it’s smarter software. We’re not selling PowerPoints; we’re selling proven technology that’s been refined under the most demanding conditions imaginable.

Our team is direct, moves fast, and doesn’t waste time on performative nonsense. If you want a company with seven layers of approval and endless consensus-building, this isn’t it. If you want to do the most important work of your career with people who say what they mean and execute, let’s talk.
