Atomic Keyboards brings the Severance keyboard to life
Atomic Keyboards has opened a waitlist for the limited edition MDR Dasher Keyboard — a device inspired by the iconic Data General Dasher terminal from 1977, which featured prominently in Apple TV+’s Severance. In the series, it was used by employees of the Macrodata Refinement department — and now, the keyboard is coming to fans in real life.
The MDR Dasher is an aluminum keyboard with a unique 73-key layout (70% of standard size), intentionally omitting the Escape, Control, and Options keys. Instead, it includes a built-in trackball module and custom-designed MDR-style keycaps. The keyboard connects via USB-C and is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Atomic Keyboards hasn’t announced a final price yet, though the company’s website shows a crossed-out price of $399, which may indicate an approximate target. Sales will be conducted as a limited-time group buy for users who sign up in advance.
The creators encourage everyone — both “Innie” and “Outie” — to approach the device with equal intention: “Please try to enjoy each keystroke equally.”
