16 500 PLN — the median salary of devs hired through Djinni. The most in-demand are JavaScript devs and Manual QAs

We've reviewed the data on IT specialist hires in Poland for the last six months, sourced from Djinni.co. Between September 1, 2023, and March 7, 2024, a total of 241 IT specialists were recruited through this platform. Below are the details of who was hired and their corresponding salaries.

Djinni asks specialists to indicate their salaries after taxes. However, we cannot guarantee that people are stating such figures, especially considering the specifics of the Polish labor market.

JavaScript developers and Manual QA specialists were the most sought-after roles

During the past six months, tech specialists constituted 76% of all hires, with developers comprising the majority at 44%. Among developers, JavaScript stood out significantly, accounting for 13% of all hires, followed by Java and .NET, each at 7%. Python and Node.js developers shared third place, each making up 4% of the hires.

Following developers, QA engineers accounted for 14% of all hires. Interestingly, Manual QA specialists were in higher demand compared to Automation QA, constituting 10% and 4% of hires, respectively.

Continuing with technical specializations, Project Managers accounted for 7% of all hires, followed by DevOps at 4%, and analytics/data professionals at 3%.

Moving on to non-technical specializations, the highest demand was for designers and marketers, each representing 7% of new hires. This was followed by Sales at 4%, and HR/Recruiting and Customer Support, each comprising 3% of hires.

New hires by specialization

Over the past six months, specialists with 3-5 years of experience were the most frequently hired through Djinni.co, constituting 37% of all hires in Poland. Interestingly, it appeared to be more challenging for newcomers to find work compared to experienced professionals, as specialists with less than a year of experience accounted for only 3% of all hires. However, it's worth noting that this trend might be specific to the Djinni.co platform, and newcomers may find opportunities through other channels.

Moreover, among the hired developers, there's a notable trend of having more work experience compared to other specialists. Specifically, 79% of developers who secured new jobs in the last 6 months had more than 3 years of experience, whereas this figure stood at 70% among other IT specialists.

Developers typically have the highest salary expectations

While we lack specific information regarding the salaries at which these IT specialists were hired, we do possess data regarding their salary expectations, with all professionals providing their minimum expected salary per month. By analyzing this data, we can discern the primary salary trends in the Polish market.

The median minimum expected salary among developers who secured new jobs on Djinni.co in the last six months is approximately 16,500 PLN.

Developers with 1-2 years of experience have a median salary expectation of 5 684 PLN. This figure rises significantly for developers with 3-5 years of experience, reaching a median of 14 700 PLN—approximately 2.5 times higher. Salary expectations continue to increase with experience, albeit not as dramatically. Specialists with 6-8 years of experience anticipate earning around 19 600 PLN, which is approximately a third more than those with 3-5 years of experience. Furthermore, individuals with over 8 years of experience have expectations that are 18% higher than those with 6-8 years of experience, totaling 23 128 PLN.

In comparison to developers in general, JavaScript specialists have slightly lower salary expectations, with a median of 13 720 PLN versus 16 464 PLN. This discrepancy can likely be attributed to their slightly shorter average work experience, standing at 4.5 years among hired JavaScript specialists compared to 5.7 years among all hired developers.

On the other hand, median salary expectations among hired Java and .NET specialists are higher, at 19 600 PLN, mirroring their greater average work experience—6.3 years for Java specialists and 7 years for .NET specialists.

Median salaries of developers

The salary expectations of other technical specialists are generally lower than those of developers, with a median minimum expected salary of 9 800 PLN compared to 16 500 PLN for developers. Manual QA specialists, for instance, anticipate an average salary of 7 840 PLN, while Project Management specialists expect around 9 800 PLN (although data for analyzing other technical specializations is lacking).

Interestingly, at the outset of their careers, these specialists typically expect similar salaries to developers, with figures around 5 880 PLN compared to 5 684 PLN for developers. However, as experience grows, the gap widens. Developers with 3-5 years of experience, for instance, anticipate higher salaries compared to other technical specialists, with expectations around 14 700 PLN versus 11 760 PLN. Among specialists with more than 5 years of experience, this disparity becomes even more pronounced, with developers expecting around 19 600 PLN compared to 15 680 PLN for other technical specialists.

Non-technical specialists, on the other hand, generally anticipate lower salaries than their technical counterparts, with a median minimum expected salary of 7 840 PLN. Designers, for instance, expect to receive around 5 880 PLN, while marketers anticipate approximately 7 840 PLN.
