WAWTech 2025 brought together more than three thousand IT professionals for two days of talks, panels, networking, and hard conversations about AI, careers, and where the industry is heading. Some came for jobs, some for answers, some just to realize they’re not alone in their doubts. How was WAWTech 2025 for you — what did you spend most of your time on?

Olha Rybenchuk is a Junior Robotics Engineer at SoftServe. Recently, she completed an internship at CERN in Geneva — the European Organization for Nuclear Research — where she had the opportunity to inspect the Large Hadron Collider.

We often see positions such as Engineering Manager or Senior Engineering Manager in software development companies. At the same time, some companies, especially those with small teams, do not have such a position at all, yet still manage to achieve their goals effectively. So who exactly is an Engineering Manager? What do they do, and does a team actually need one?
